This year Jakarta, will be the host of one of the most prestigious and important Internet Conference in the Asia Pacific region, namely the APNIC 40. He has chosen Indonesia as host, not without cause. Since five years ago, precisely the year 2010, the number of Internet users in Indonesia has grown more than doubled. At the moment, recorded more than 88 million people connected to the Internet with the majority of users aged 15-25 years.
However, the country still lost much with neighboring countries where Internet penetration is still relatively low in Indonesia namely 34.9 percent, 43.8 percent in Viet Nam, Malaysia 43.7 percent and Singapore 99 percent. But even though internet penetration is low, but the growth rate was very rapidly. Though it is difficult to reach the target of the UN Millennium Development Goal to connect 50 percent of the population to the Internet by the end of 2015.
According to the Deputy Director General, APNIC, Sanjaya, as does most of the countries in the Asia-Pacific region, many challenges that must be addressed, especially in providing access to the Internet outside of the big cities.
"The Government of Indonesia shows good anticipation by supporting network development program Palapa Ring I, who have been held in the islands along the coast of the western part of Indonesia in 2009. This development project will be addingfiber-optic cable throughout Indonesia in the area of 8.295 kilometers to the East.Expected completion in 2018, Palapa Ring will become the backbone of broadband Internet that connects 33 provinces, and 460 cities and districts, "he said.
In addition to connecting more people to Internet, this infrastructure will also enhance business opportunities between regions and internationally via the Internet, and not least the importance of enlarging the capacity of traffic data to anticipate new technologies such as the Internet of Things that will connect the device to the iPhone Internet network.
"But, to make sure Indonesia became an important player in the Internet, the increase in infrastructure alone is not enough. We must also strengthen their knowledge and skills in the operation of the Internet network, particularly in anticipation of the use of IPv6 as the new Protocol replaces the IPv4 address numbers have run out and had some weaknesses in the side's performance as well as security, "added Sanjaya.
The same with other countries, Indonesia need to plan how to ' life after ', since IPv4 to support the growth of the Internet and new innovations, where billions of devices both large and small, from a variety of industries ranging from factories, plantations, to housing, will be connected to the Internet. Something very difficult to achieve without the use of IPv6.
APNIC 40 serves several sessions regarding IPv6, including the world's first tutorial about deploying IPv6 for mobile operators. In this session, the network operator will learn from the real experience of IPv6 implementation in a large mobile network operator abroad. . Events conference is held from 7 to 10 September 2015 at the Ritz-Carlton Mega Kuningan, Jakarta.
